I have never been the ‘resolution kind of gal’ but I have tried to ‘pick a word’ to guide me through the year — this has never worked. Oh…. I think about the word for maybe the first few weeks of the new year, but then I just stop. I wasn’t planning to pick any words this year, but something came in the mail today that got me thinking….
Every year, at the beginning of the year, our MP (Federal Member of Parliament) sends out an
obligatory complimentary calendar to all his/her constituents. I NEVER look at it: it’s a thin, cheap paper booklet AND it’s in black and white. (my eyes! my eyes!). However, I decided to browse through it this evening and discovered that each month of the year was represented by one of Canada’s provinces and territories. Each province, except for Quebec (their’s is en français) and the 2 northwestern territories has a latin motto: and this really intrigued me!
I am not sure what I am going to do with all this information, but I wanted to share with you the one motto that resonated with me; It is the motto of my home province, Ontario ( the
greatest largest province) in Canada:
Ut incepit fidelis sic permanet
English translation: “Loyal she began and loyal she remains.”
I can think of several wonderful women in my life who this applies to and I would hope that they, in return, would feel the same way about me.
True friendship is priceless and I am so lucky to have, and have had, incredible and (some) life-long friends. So here is to all the wonderful women I know and love – my 2016 wish for you – Ut incepit fidelis sic permanet: I will be there for you, fiercely loyal – always.
Do you have friends like this? Let them know how you feel. 🙂
